A national title, a captain’s trophy — and the Best Player of the Tournament award. It has been quite an evening for Biswarang Brahma of St. Augustine’s School, Kalimpong.

With inputs from Youraj Chettri (Rocky), SAS Batch of 1987.

Biswarang captained Team North East to the U-19 CISCE National Volleyball Championship, with the final played on 23 September 2026 at Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu. He was also adjudged Best Player of the Tournament.

For those who have followed his years at St. Augustine’s, the breadth of his sporting ability will come as little surprise. Biswarang has excelled for SAS in volleyball, basketball, football and swimming. In the pool, he has been the school’s leading swimmer, setting a number of school records in inter-house competition.

His achievements across several disciplines were unusual enough for the school to create a new sporting distinction for him — the White Coat — recognising an all-round sporting record that did not fit neatly into the existing categories.

The CISCE Nationals represent another level altogether. Players move beyond their individual school teams through regional competition and selection, with those chosen coming together to represent their region. For Biswarang, that meant progressing from St. Augustine’s School to Team North East, alongside selected players from other CISCE schools, including St. Joseph’s School, North Point, Darjeeling.

This year, the North East volleyball side was not merely represented by a Sasonian — it was captained by one.

And Biswarang’s volleyball journey has now gone a stage further. Following his performance at the CISCE Nationals, he has been selected to represent CISCE at the SGFI National School Games. The progression is a substantial one: from representing SAS, to representing North East at the CISCE Nationals, and now to representing the Council itself at the next level of national school competition.

Nor is volleyball his only national assignment. Biswarang has also been selected to represent North East in the CISCE National Basketball Tournament.

Biswarang is the younger brother of Khanswarang Brahma, whose own sporting journey has previously featured on The Sasonian.

For Biswarang, though, the story increasingly has a shape of its own: White Coat at SAS, captain of the CISCE U-19 national champions, Best Player of the Tournament, North East representative in two sports, and now selected to represent CISCE at SGFI.

Tonight, the trophy belongs to Team North East. For Sasonians, there is plenty of blue and yellow in this victory too.

Congratulations, Biswarang — Captain. National Champion. Best Player. Sasonian.
